Position Summary
The Consultant will provide expert analysis, valuation, and advisory services on agricultural and nature-based assets, including farmland, crops, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and carbon credits.
This role combines financial, ecological, and sustainability expertise to assess the economic and environmental value of agricultural landscapes and natural capital. The Consultant will support clients in investment decisions, farmland acquisitions, carbon/biodiversity credit generation, risk assessments, and sustainable land-use planning.
In addition to valuation and advisory work, the Consultant may also contribute to other companies of the Group in agricultural and natural capital investment and asset management, as well as technical support for carbon and biodiversity projects in the field of agriculture, particularly in preparation for audit, validation, and verification.
Key Responsibilities
Valuation & Analysis
Conduct agricultural asset valuations, including farmland, crop production, and ecosystem services.
Assess agricultural and nature-based assets for their financial and non-financial value (soil health, water services, carbon sequestration, biodiversity credits).
Apply established valuation frameworks (DCF, cost-benefit, market-based comparisons, ecosystem service valuation).
Integrate carbon, biodiversity, and sustainability market methodologies into financial assessments.
Market Research & Advisory
Monitor trends in agriculture investments, farmland values, natural capital, carbon markets, and biodiversity credits.
Advise clients on opportunities, risks, and compliance with international standards.
Support feasibility studies and due diligence for farmland and agribusiness acquisitions.
Client Engagement
Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and design tailored valuation approaches.
Prepare and present clear valuation reports, including both technical and financial perspectives.
Support clients in integrating valuation outputs into investment strategy, compliance, and sustainability reporting.
Project Delivery & Coordination
Work closely with audit and technical teams to align valuations with agricultural, carbon, and biodiversity audit processes.
Ensure deliverables are consistent, transparent, and aligned with best practices in agricultural economics and natural capital accounting.
Contribute to multidisciplinary projects involving agriculture, forestry, conservation, and finance.
Required Qualifications
Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Environmental Economics, Finance, or related field.
Proven experience in agricultural asset valuation, farmland assessment, or natural capital economics.
Familiarity with carbon and biodiversity credit markets and valuation methodologies.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modelling and valuation tools.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Fluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
Preferred Attributes
Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in agricultural economics, natural resource economics.
Experience with agriculture investments, farmland asset management, and agribusiness operations.
Familiarity with international valuation standards (IVS), ISO standards, or natural capital accounting frameworks (e.g., TNFD, SEEA).
Knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, and integration of agricultural and ecological data.
Field experience in agriculture, farmland transactions, or conservation projects.
Ability to work across cultures and geographies, engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Strong interest in sustainability, conservation finance, and ESG investments.
